Gilded Leather Notebook
- Unit price
- /per
A leather notepad that arrives with the pen already on it. The Gilded Leather Notebook is a top-opening pad, the reporter shape rather than a book that opens sideways, with a full-grain leather cover, 80 sheets and a black Semender pen included. You can have a gilded initial pressed onto the cover. Brown or black.
Gilded Leather Notepad Features
The pen comes with it
A black Semender pen is included and it clips to the elastic at the top of the
pad, so the two travel together. A notepad without a pen is half a tool, and this is the half
people usually forget.
Top-opening, 80 sheets
The pad opens upward, the way a reporter's or a steno pad does: you flip the page
over the top rather than turning it sideways. That is what makes it usable standing up, in one
hand, which a bound book is not. There are 80 sheets, 160 pages.
A gilded initial, if you want one
Choose a letter from A to Z and it is pressed onto the cover in gold. It is a
small thing that turns a notepad into someone's notepad. If you would rather have a plain cover,
choose the no-lettering option and it arrives without it.
Real leather, and you can smell it
The cover is full-grain calfskin. It darkens and takes on a patina over the
years, which a card or plastic-covered pad never does; it also smells like leather when you open
the box, which is a large part of why it works as a gift.
Notepad Dimensions and Material
Brown reads warm and classic, black flat and formal, and on both the natural grain of the hide shows on the surface. The front carries a small area for the gilded monogram and there is contrast stitching along the edge.
Full-grain leather: the topmost, densest-fibered layer of the hide, its surface never sanded or thinned. Over the years it darkens rather than wears out, and the small scratches of daily use largely disappear when you rub them with a finger.

Who It Is For
- People taking quick notes standing up, at a desk or in a meeting
- People who want the pen to already be there
- Anyone giving a personal gift with a gold initial on it
An honest limit: this is a notepad, not a journal. It opens from the top and it is made for short notes and lists, so it is the wrong shape for long-form writing or for keeping a diary. For that, the Leather Notebook is bound and lined in A5, and the A5 Leather Journal is the refillable one with blank pages. The gilded letter is also a single initial rather than a full name, and a personalized cover cannot be returned for a change of mind.
How to Pair the Notepad
- If you want to write longer: the Leather Notebook and the A5 Leather Journal are the A5 pieces in the same leather.
- For the rest of your pens: a Leather Pencase or a Suede Pencase keeps the desk in order.
- The Semender pairing: Semender Leather Balm a few times a year keeps the cover from drying out.
Notepad Care
- Wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Never use chemical cleaners on leather
- The leather darkens and gains character over time. That is not a flaw, it is patina
- Apply leather balm a few times a year so the cover stays supple
- Keep the gilded initial away from solvents. Foil sits on the surface and alcohol will lift it
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the pen included?
Yes. A black Semender pen comes with it and clips to the elastic at the top of the pad, so you are not hunting for something to write with. Nothing else needs buying: it is ready the moment you open it.
What does the gilded initial mean, and is it optional?
It is a single letter, A to Z, pressed onto the cover in gold foil. You pick your letter from the list when you order. If you do not want one, choose the no-lettering option and the pad arrives with a plain cover.
How many pages, and how does it open?
Eighty sheets, which is 160 pages, and it opens from the top: you flip each page up and over rather than turning it sideways. That is the reporter format, and it is what makes it usable in one hand while standing.
Is it good for keeping a journal?
Not really. It is built for short notes and lists rather than long entries, and the top-opening format works against writing page after page. For a journal, the bound Leather Notebook with 80 lined sheets or the refillable A5 Leather Journal are the right shapes.
Can I refill it when the paper runs out?
No, the pad is not refillable. When the 80 sheets are used, the paper is finished. If replacing paper matters to you, the A5 Leather Journal is a leather cover with two replaceable notebooks inside.
The notepad and the pen in one box, with a gold letter on the front if you want it.
How can I track my order?
When your order ships, we email you a shipping confirmation with your tracking number and a tracking link. You also get an email at every stage until it reaches you. You can check the status any time on our Track My Order page, or under your account if you signed in when you ordered.
These emails go automatically to the email address entered with the order, and we can't stop them for a single order. If you are sending a gift and want to keep the surprise, enter your own email address and phone number at checkout.
When will my order ship, and when will it arrive?
Each piece is prepared after you order: your order is prepared and shipped within 6 business days, then it is usually delivered within 3-5 business days. The dates for your order are shown on the product page before you buy. Weekends and public holidays are not counted.
Orders ship with UPS, FedEx or DHL. We email your tracking number on the day your order ships. A parcel doesn't always leave the carrier's facility right away, so the tracking may take a little while to show movement; please check again later.
How much is shipping?
The shipping cost for your order is shown at checkout before you pay, and most orders ship free. There are no extra shipping charges after you pay.
Do you accept returns and cancellations?
Yes. You have 14 days from delivery to request a return of a piece without personalization; it must come back unused, in its original condition and packaging. Pieces stamped with a name are made for one person, so as stated in our Refund Policy they can't be canceled, returned or exchanged. To start a return or a cancellation, write to us at contact@semender.info or through our contact page.
How do I personalize my order?
On the product page, type the name you want in the "Add the name you want stamped (optional)" box below the color options. Name stamping is free. The limit is 5 to 18 characters depending on the piece, spaces included, and the counter in the box shows each piece's limit.
All letters A to Z, the numbers 0-9, ❤ and the marks ( ) . - & @ / can be stamped; other marks and emoji can't. Logos are stamped only on corporate bulk orders. Names are stamped in capital letters, 6 mm (about 1/4 in) tall. Personalized pieces can't be canceled, returned or exchanged.
For the full details, see our Personalization Guide.
Is your leather real?
Yes. Our leather pieces are made from full-grain calfskin, semi-vegetable tanned. On our waxed canvas models, leather is used together with waxed canvas. The leather darkens and gains character as you use it.
What the labels on leather actually mean is explained in Full-Grain, Top-Grain and Genuine Leather.
My order is a gift. What should I do?
Write your message in the order note on the cart page and we add it to your order. To make the gift extra special, add a wooden gift box from the product page, choose one of our ready-made gift sets, or put several pieces together on Build Your Own Gift Set.
How do I care for leather, and how often?
Leather is a natural material: every piece can carry different tones and marks, it darkens as you use it, and it can scratch in everyday use. These scratches, and marks left by water, can be treated with our Leather Balm.
To use the balm, first wipe the piece with a damp cloth and let it dry completely. Take a small amount on your finger or a soft cloth, work it into the leather in small circles, and wipe off the excess. If it's your first time, try it on a small hidden area; the balm can darken the leather slightly at first, which is normal.
Once a month is enough for a piece you carry every day, and every two to three months for pieces you use less. For stains, see What to Try on a Leather Stain.
