How to Burn It
- On the first burn, leave it lit until the melted wax reaches the edge of the tin, roughly 2
hours. A soy candle keeps the shape of its first pool, and a short first burn is what causes
tunneling
- Trim the wooden wick to about 1/8" (3 mm) before every burn and snap the burnt carbon off
once it is cool
- Put the lid back on when it is cold. That is what keeps dust out of the wax and holds the
scent in between burns
- Keep it out of a draft, burn no more than about 4 hours at a stretch, and never leave a lit
candle unattended
An honest limit: 40 hours is an approximation. Burn it in a draft or skip
trimming the wick and it goes faster. At 7.8 oz (220 g) it is a small to medium room candle: for a
living room, or an open plan space, the 15.9 oz candles with multiple wicks are the ones that
actually fill the air. The tin also gets hot to the touch while it is burning,

Yes, more than glass does. Metal carries the heat of the flame outward, so put it on a coaster, a stone or a plate rather than straight onto a wooden table or a shelf you care about.
Can I use the tin afterwards?
Once the wax is gone, warm water and a little dish soap clean out the residue and the tin becomes a small lidded container. That is the practical advantage of a tin over glass: it has a lid and it will not break if it goes in a bag.
