- On the first burn, wait until the entire top surface has melted; that way it will not tunnel down the middle next time
- Trim the wick to about 5 mm before each burn
- Do not burn it for more than 4 hours at a time; do not touch the glass while it is hot
- Do not extinguish it by pushing the wick into the wax and leaving it there; that causes soot and smoke
