From the workshop to your door

How it's made,
how it's packed

Our leather pieces are made by hand in the workshop: cut, stitched, edge-finished and, if you like, stamped with your name. Then every order is packed with the same care and sent on its way. Here is that path, step by step.

Cut to the pattern

Every part is cut to its own pattern: from a large hide with a knife and a steel ruler, or with a steel die in the press for repeated parts. The pattern keeps every piece of a model the same size.

  • Steel ruler
  • Press die

Parts are stitched together

The cut parts are joined on a heavy-duty sewing machine; on some pieces the stitching is done by hand with needle and thread.

  • Machine stitching
  • Hand stitching

The edges are finished

Where the leather folds and joins, it is skived thin on a machine. The cut edge is trimmed with a knife and smoothed on a sanding wheel, so it sits flat and never feels sharp.

Your name, letter by letter

The name you type is set in brass letters one by one and pressed into the leather. Stamping is free, in capital letters, 6 mm (about 1/4 in) tall. Which characters can be stamped is in our personalization guide.

One more look before packing

Hardware such as buckles and rivets goes on. Every piece passes through our hands once more before it is packed, with a last look at the stitching, the edges and the stamping.

Every order, like a gift

Depending on its size, the piece goes into a kraft envelope or box. A wallet in a kraft box is wrapped in tissue paper first; with a wooden box order, the piece sits in a dust bag. The package is tied with jute twine and closed with a wax seal.

Handed to the carrier, on its way to you

The package goes into a Semender & Co mailer, gets its label and is handed to the carrier. You get an email at every stage until it reaches you.
