A steel flask with a character of its own. The Leather Wrapped Flask
is an 8 oz (240 ml) stainless steel flask inside a hand-stitched leather sleeve
that unsnaps and comes off. Brown, green or black, with free name embossing on the
leather.
Leather Wrapped Steel Flask Features
The sleeve comes off
The leather is not glued to the flask. It closes with snaps, so you take it off to
wash the flask properly and put it back on afterwards. Most leather-wrapped flasks are permanently
bonded, which means you are either washing the leather or not washing the flask.
8 oz of stainless steel
The body holds 8 oz (240 ml) and is stainless steel throughout, so it does not
hold the taste or the smell of what was in it last. The screw cap is attached to the
body and seals, which is the difference between a flask in a coat pocket and a wet coat
pocket.
Free name embossing
Up to 18 characters embossed into the leather, free. Enough for a
full name or a short line, which is why this ends up being a groomsman and birthday gift more often
than a self-purchase.
Metal Semender pin
The sleeve carries a metal Semender pin, the same detail that runs across the barware pieces.
Flask Dimensions and Material
The sleeve is brown, green or black full-grain leather, hand-stitched, wrapping a plain steel
body. The leather darkens with handling and takes the shape of the flask over time, so an old one
sits tighter than a new one.
Full-grain leather: the topmost, densest-fibered layer of the hide, its
surface never sanded or thinned. Over the years it darkens rather than wears out, and the small
scratches of daily use largely disappear when you rub them with a finger.

What It Is For
- Spirits, at 8 oz (240 ml), which is a few measures
- A coat pocket, a bag or a glovebox, with the cap sealed
- Hikes, hunting trips, a cold seat at a game
- Keeping a drink hot or cold: no
An honest limit: this is not a thermos. There is no vacuum wall and no
insulation, so a hot drink will be lukewarm before long and a cold one will not stay cold. Anyone
who wants coffee to still be hot two hours later needs an insulated bottle, not a flask. The
leather sleeve also should not go in a dishwasher; take it off first.
How to Pair the Flask
-
On the same table: the
Leather Wrapped Enamel Mug and the
Leather Coaster are the rest of the barware in the same
hide.
-
As a gift: 18 characters of embossing turns it into a groomsman, birthday or
retirement gift without needing a size or a color guessed right.
-
The Semender pairing:
Semender Leather Balm once a month (every two to three months for occasional use) on the
sleeve, never on the steel.
Flask Care
- Unsnap the sleeve before washing the flask. Steel takes hot water, leather does not
- Rinse and dry the flask properly after spirits; a sealed damp flask goes stale
- Apply leather balm to the sleeve once a month (every two to three months for occasional use)
- The leather darkens and gains character over time. That is not a flaw, it is patina
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it hold?
Eight ounces, which is 240 ml, and that is a few measures of spirits rather than a drink for the afternoon. The size is deliberate: an 8 oz flask sits flat in a coat pocket and a larger one does not.
Does it keep drinks hot or cold?
No. There is no insulation in it, so it does not work as a thermos: a hot drink loses its heat and a cold one warms up. If you want coffee hot two hours from now, an insulated bottle is the right product.
Can I take the leather off?
Yes, that is how it is built. The sleeve closes with snaps rather than glue, so you unsnap it, wash the steel properly and put it back. It is also the reason the flask stays hygienic over years, which glued-on leather makes difficult.
Does it leak in a bag?
The cap screws down onto a seal and stays attached to the body, so it does not go missing and it holds when it is closed properly. As with any flask, check that it is fully screwed down before it goes in a pocket.
Can I have a name on it?
Yes, free, up to 18 characters embossed into the leather sleeve. That is enough for a full name or a short line. Note that a personalized piece cannot be returned for a change of mind.
Eight ounces of steel wrapped in something that will look better in ten years than it does
today.
