Product Details
The lighter arrives empty; this is what makes it work. Zippo Fuel is genuine Zippo lighter fluid for flint and wick petrol lighters, in a 4.2 fl oz (125 ml) tin with a child-resistant spout. One tin is roughly 30 refills.
Zippo Lighter Fluid Details
About 30 refills in a tin
A single refill takes roughly 4 ml, so a 125 ml tin covers around
30 of them. For most people that is a year or more of ordinary use from one
purchase.
For flint and wick lighters
This is fluid for petrol lighters with a wick, which is exactly what our
Leather Wrapped Lighter is. It is
not for butane gas lighters, refillable torch lighters or long kitchen
lighters.
Child-resistant spout
The tin has a red child-resistant spout with a narrow nozzle, which is what lets
you aim fluid into the cotton rather than over the table.
Buy it with the lighter
Our Leather Wrapped Lighter ships
empty, because lighters must. Adding a tin to the same order is the difference
between a lighter that works on the day it arrives and one that waits for a trip to the store.
How to Refill a Wick Lighter
- Slide the leather sleeve off the lighter first. Fuel stains leather permanently
- Lift the insert out of the case and turn it over
- Lift the felt pad and add fluid slowly into the cotton
- Stop as soon as the cotton looks wet. Do not fill to the top
- Put the pad back, wipe your hands and the lighter, wait a minute, then light it

An honest limit, and this one is about safety rather than taste: do not overfill. Fluid past the point where the cotton is saturated seeps out of the case, and a lighter with fuel on the outside produces a flame considerably larger than you expected. Stop the moment the cotton looks wet. This fluid is only for wick petrol lighters, never for gas ones. And it is fuel, not a repair kit: the flint and wick in our Leather Wrapped Lighter are not replaceable parts.
What to Buy It With
- The lighter itself: the Leather Wrapped Lighter ships empty and needs this to work.
- The rest of the set: the Tobacco Pouch, the Leather Cigarette Case and the Leather Cigar Case.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many refills is a tin?
Around 30. One refill takes roughly 4 ml and the tin holds 125 ml (4.2 fl oz), so for most people a single tin lasts a year or more of ordinary use.
Does it work with any lighter?
No. It is fluid for flint and wick petrol lighters, which is what our Leather Wrapped Lighter is. It cannot be used in butane gas lighters, torch lighters or long kitchen lighters, which take a different fuel entirely.
How do I fill the lighter?
Take the leather sleeve off, lift the insert out of the case, turn it over and lift the felt pad. Add fluid slowly into the cotton and stop as soon as it looks wet. Replace the pad, wipe everything down, wait a minute and then light it.
What happens if I overfill it?
Excess fluid seeps out of the case, which means fuel on the outside of the lighter and a flame much larger than intended when you strike it. Always stop when the cotton is saturated, and never fill to the brim.
Why does my lighter come empty?
Filled lighters cannot be shipped, so every lighter leaves empty. That is why this tin exists as a separate item: add it to the same order and the lighter works within a minute of unboxing.
A tin costs almost nothing and it is the difference between a lighter and an ornament.
How can I track my order?
When your order ships, we email you a shipping confirmation with your tracking number and a tracking link. You also get an email at every stage until it reaches you. You can check the status any time on our Track My Order page, or under your account if you signed in when you ordered.
These emails go automatically to the email address entered with the order, and we can't stop them for a single order. If you are sending a gift and want to keep the surprise, enter your own email address and phone number at checkout.
When will my order ship, and when will it arrive?
Each piece is prepared after you order: your order is prepared and shipped within 6 business days, then it is usually delivered within 3-5 business days. The dates for your order are shown on the product page before you buy. Weekends and public holidays are not counted.
Orders ship with UPS, FedEx or DHL. We email your tracking number on the day your order ships. A parcel doesn't always leave the carrier's facility right away, so the tracking may take a little while to show movement; please check again later.
How much is shipping?
The shipping cost for your order is shown at checkout before you pay, and most orders ship free. There are no extra shipping charges after you pay.
Do you accept returns and cancellations?
Yes. You have 14 days from delivery to request a return of a piece without personalization; it must come back unused, in its original condition and packaging. Pieces stamped with a name are made for one person, so as stated in our Refund Policy they can't be canceled, returned or exchanged. To start a return or a cancellation, write to us at contact@semender.info or through our contact page.
How do I personalize my order?
On the product page, type the name you want in the "Add the name you want stamped (optional)" box below the color options. Name stamping is free. The limit is 5 to 18 characters depending on the piece, spaces included, and the counter in the box shows each piece's limit.
All letters A to Z, the numbers 0-9, ❤ and the marks ( ) . - & @ / can be stamped; other marks and emoji can't. Logos are stamped only on corporate bulk orders. Names are stamped in capital letters, 6 mm (about 1/4 in) tall. Personalized pieces can't be canceled, returned or exchanged.
For the full details, see our Personalization Guide.
Is your leather real?
Yes. Our leather pieces are made from full-grain calfskin, semi-vegetable tanned. On our waxed canvas models, leather is used together with waxed canvas. The leather darkens and gains character as you use it.
What the labels on leather actually mean is explained in Full-Grain, Top-Grain and Genuine Leather.
My order is a gift. What should I do?
Write your message in the order note on the cart page and we add it to your order. To make the gift extra special, add a wooden gift box from the product page, choose one of our ready-made gift sets, or put several pieces together on Build Your Own Gift Set.
How do I care for leather, and how often?
Leather is a natural material: every piece can carry different tones and marks, it darkens as you use it, and it can scratch in everyday use. These scratches, and marks left by water, can be treated with our Leather Balm.
To use the balm, first wipe the piece with a damp cloth and let it dry completely. Take a small amount on your finger or a soft cloth, work it into the leather in small circles, and wipe off the excess. If it's your first time, try it on a small hidden area; the balm can darken the leather slightly at first, which is normal.
Once a month is enough for a piece you carry every day, and every two to three months for pieces you use less. For stains, see What to Try on a Leather Stain.
